To know where they are, navigators need to know two things: Their latitude and their longitude.
Latitude tells how far you are from the equator. Longitude tells how far east or west you are of a point on Earth called the prime meridian.
If you know both longitude and latitude, you can pinpoint exactly where you are on Earth.
