    Update: Drifter Deployed!

We have deployed the drifter buoy that we are adopting along with the Seoul American High School in Korea! Remember, a drifter is a device that floats in the water with the currents. It uses a satellite to tell us where it is and what the water temperature is.

Check the shiptracker website to see where we have been sailing. Where do you think the drifter will go? Please post your theories on the blog. Only time will tell who is right. Try researching currents like the Gulf Stream before you post your answer!

Click here for video of the launch. Please note: This is a large file. If you are in a lab, please watch this together on the Smarboard rather than trying to load it on each machine separately.

    Hi Mr. T!

We are from St. Mark Catholic School in Boynton Beach, FL.

    I am a NOAA TAS 2007.

My 6 (b47) th grade class just read your journal.

    They say: Angelo says hi
    Nicole loves the photos

Answer to what these creatures have in common:
Anthony R. says they sell them.
Anthony W. says they eat them.
Michael C. says you can find them at resturaunts
Jackson B. says you can play with all of them
    Riley says the obvious - they live in the ocean!!! :}

    Questions:
Nicole: What would happen if a ship hit a Drifter?

Angelo: How can our school get/ adopt a Drifter? - We want one!

Jackson: Why do you have snuggles?

Jessica: When you deploy the drifter is it hard to deal with all of the loud noises?

Amanda: How heavey are the drifters?

Edward: How did you really know the whale was dead and not asleep?

Tommy: Did any of the fish try to bite you?

    Dear Mr. Tanenbaum,

Mr. Moretti's class wishes you a great trip. We saw the drifter buoy deployed as well as the sealife you have captured. Poor whale! Do you know what it was that killed him? Are many whales dying due to conditions in the seas that weren't there before? We also followed your ship with the NOAA tracker. It must be a strange feeling being in the middle of the ocean. We will see you soon

    HI MR. T,

This is Mrs. Eubanks once again from St. Mark Catholic School in Florida.

Now I have my 6 (fantastic 6) class.

Here is what they have to say/ask.

Kyle: Enjoy your trip on the ship.

    Nicole B.: Be safe.

    Luke says HI

    Questions:

Amanda G.: Can a fish eat the Drifter?

Tiffany: Is it littering to deploy things - even drifters into the ocean?

Weston: How much does the drifter weigh?

Bryce: How big is the rake that you use to scoop the bottom of the ocean?

Luke: Have you found any new species?

Bryce: We looked at the ships track, but we would like to know how many miles you were from land?

RJ: Did you make the drifter or buy it?

Weston: How many drifters are around the world?

Luke: How many different species have you found.

And my student Angelo from the other class was worried that we were asking you too many questions- He said " you're gonna kill this guy- we need to stop asking questions.."
    So we stop now!

Thank you Mr. T we look forward to your comments!
